Cheap Eats & Comfort Food

Everyone has their go-to spot for an inexpensive, yet tasty meal. It might be the coffee house you frequent on your way to work every day or a once-a-week dining spot where you order the same dish that you know won’t let you down or that hip lunch spot where you and your co-workers head to every Friday. We asked our contacts on LinkedIn what their favorite Capital Region "cheap eats" spots were.

Here are their direct quotes…

South End Tavern in Troy. Very economical, and it looks like it did when our grandparents ate there. I bring my teenage sons and they are hard to fill up!
I happen to love Moe’s on Mondays – they offer a gut-busting burrito with chips and salsa and a beverage for $7 bucks. Better than the average "fast" food.
Check out Main Street Grille on Main Street Jonesville (Clifton Park). A charming, relaxed atmosphere, great food and drinks. The last time I was there they had live music and everyone jumped in to sing Sweet Caroline – felt like I was at Fenway, lots of fun!

Definitely Garden BIstro 24. Great food at reasonable prices and a reasonably priced wine list.

Many great choices, look at Garden Bistro 24, 1839 Central Ave, Colonie. Local, price value, great taste and service.

Taking a different tack, don’t overlook the Cicrle Diner at the Latham Circle. Wide menu, decent prices, friendly wait staff, convenient location.

Ali Baba (excellent Middle Eastern food) on 15th Street in Troy; Notty Pine (fantastic pizza, wings pasta fagioli, burgers) also on 15th Street in Troy.

El Loco in Albany – great food and it definitely falls under the cheap eats category.

Jose Malones on River Street in Troy has an eclectic appetizer menu. Excellent empeñadas too! Order two apps or an app and a salad and you’ve got cheap gourmet eats.

Half-price wings during the day at Orchard Tavern Albany!

The $6.99 Indian Lunch Buffet at Shalimar on Rte. 7 in Latham (1 Mile W. of 87 in Peter Harris Plaza) is great and quick. These are the same owners who used to be located for many, many years on Central Ave. in downtown Albany. Great food, great price, now with parking.

Outback Steakhouse everyday specials are fabulous at $9.99!

Try the "Dinner Table Tuesdays" at Bellini’s in both Slingerlands and Clifton Park….a complete dinner for four for $19.95….absolutely can’t beat it!

O’Tooles on Central Ave (Kohl’s Plaza) has amazing inexpensive lunch specials. Two  people, two BIG buffalo chicken salads, two sodas = $13.50.

It’s a little outside the Capital District (Chestertown, I-87 exit 25). But OP Fredericks at Loon Lake has great food at a very reasonable price.

Miss Albany Diner – Can’t beat the food, nor the atmosphere for a genuine, era-perfect meal.

Jake Moon’s Restaurant, on Delaware Ave in Clarksville. Top meals for good prices.

My Linh, Delaware Ave in Albany. Haven’t been there yet? You’re cheating yourself.
