Fall in love fashion items for autumn

My favorite time of year is upon us—fall. With the leaves changing, the crispness in the air, the smell of apple pie, and the look of orange pumpkins and gourds, it is time to clean out the closets to make room for the new fall styles and trends. Here are some fall 2017 ideas you can incorporate in your current wardrobe:
1. Sleeveless vests/dusters: Fall can be chilly or it can turn out to be an Indian summer sort of day. Layering a cardigan or a sleeveless vest will give you the option to add or remove as weather permits. A long, sleeveless vest makes a nice line on women of all sizes. It adds style by hiding any extra curves that you may have. Sleeveless vests look great in solid black, cream, tan and gray.
2. Big belts: Yes, big belts are back! It might be good to stock up in black, brown, gray and neutral tan. The most on-trend way to work this into your everyday style is by adding a wide belt. Use the belt over your dress or jacket. If you love an oversized sweater and leggings, or a turtleneck with jeans, finish the look with a wide belt. The easiest, most flattering wide belts have stretch to them to comfortably cinch your waistline.
3. Red: Red everywhere and even adding splashes of the tone to your everyday outfits of grays, blacks and tans will make a statement. One idea is to pair a red silk tee with caramel-colored trousers, or go with a red shift dress with tall tan boots.
4. Plaid: Plaid will never be solidly out for autumn, but think now of burnt orange, reds and deep burgundy. A plaid shirt and a pair of jeans are great for a weekend look.
5. Mid length skirts: Also referred to as the midi—not too long and not too short, just a few inches below the knee–this is the look to go for this season.
6. Chocolate brown: This is another great stable color for fall. A monochrome brown jacket and pants with a brown blouse or turtle neck will look on-trend and sleek.
7. Statement booties: Block heeled, round-toed booties are the best option and most likely the most comfortable as well.
8. Satchel bags: The big, oversized bags are still functional but a structured, bookish satchel is the “in” look with a metal chain attached.
9. Pantsuits: Matching blazers and pants are all the rage. A well-tailored pantsuit is worth the investment. You can always break up the pieces and use the jacket, or pants, separately. But for fall 2017, wear the duo together. Choose a jacket that fits you well, featuring a flattering waist and some structure to the shoulders. This does mean some padding on the shoulders, but strong shoulders paired with a curvy waistline are incredibly slimming. Wear the pantsuit during the day with a simple blouse and nice flats and dress it up for evening with a lace camisole and heels or pointy mules. Make this look even more on-trend by wearing it with a chocolate brown top or velvet shoes, a red lip and a wide belt over the jacket.
10. Metallic: Choose minimal splashes of metallic. Select accessories with metallic trim or a sweater or cardigan with a touch of metal or sheen. If you have special evening events coming up, there is no better time to go with a metallic evening dress.
Bonus item: I have an affinity for necklaces. The fall necklace trend is wide chains, short or long. Some are a bit over the top but you most likely will have some already in your jewelry box, which is the best type of fashion trend!
