East Greenbush Window Coverings
601 New Loudon Road, Suite 4, Latham
477.9025; www.EastGreenbushWindowCoverings.com
Small business, big passion
East Greenbush Window Coverings, founded in 1987 by owner Lorraine Greaney, has expanded again, moving this ever-growing business to the busy Route 9 corridor across from Newton Plaza.
Lorraine began working in interior design and home furnishings out of a small in-home studio. After any years, Lorraine expanded and opened a studio in East Greenbush, catering to residential and commercial customers throughout the Capital Region. While the emphasis is on window coverings, we also offer color consultation and room arrangement. Fast forward to today to our latest expansion.
Specializing in custom window treatments, EGWC displays premium brands such as Hunter Douglas, Kirsch, Graber, and Norman’s, as well as fabric and trim from Kravet, Lee Jofa, Candace Olsen, Robert Allen, Carole, Fabricut, and others. We also carry beautiful hardware to complement any décor.
Lorraine’s staff includes Annette Lehner, interior designer with extensive knowledge of the drapery industry; Wendy Valente, interior designer; and Shannon Lee, receptionist whose smile and personality will put you instantly at ease. Come in and see the beautiful new showroom and find out why our tag line, “Where we care a lot about the details but more about you,” is the secret to our success.  See our ad on page 26.

Hudson Solar
125 Wolf Road, Albany
866.452.7652; www.HudsonSolar.com
The solar industry had a record-breaking year in 2014. Solar market experts are predicting the number of installed systems will reach THREE TIMES the number only three short years ago. According to Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), solar energy is generating enough clean energy to power over 3.5 million American homes.
Customers can expect 50-60% of solar installation costs to be covered between the NYS and federal tax credits and rebates. Once the system has been paid off, the home will be producing free, clean energy for the lifespan of the system—a no-brainer for “going green” and “saving green.”
Among the many elements to consider when looking into solar power for your home, the most important factor is WHO will be installing your system. Is it a reputable company with longevity and experience? NABCEP-certified? Using high quality products?
When it comes to reliable power and real savings, choose Hudson Solar, an award-winning solar design and installation company with a portfolio of over 1,100 installed systems. Whether you own a home, farm or business, Hudson Solar has the expertise and experience to design the perfect, custom solar system to fit your needs. With two locations, Albany and Rhinebeck, we are truly your local source for high quality installations.  Since 2003, Hudson Solar has served upstate New York, western Massachusetts and southern Vermont, and is a proud employer of military veterans. Redbud Development, Inc.
2 Commerce Park Drive, Wilton
691.0428; www.Redbuddevelopment.com
Enhancing relaxation and entertainment spaces is a main purpose of landscaping your property. The past few years have seen a renewed focus on the “staycation” and spending more time with family and friends, and a new-found interest in landscaping as an art, environmental science and investment. This paves the way for 2015 landscaping trends.
Outdoor spaces will be more versatile and inviting. New outdoor fabrics create more possibilities for comfort and color splashes to mimic the indoors. Fire features of all kinds—from rustic fire pits, to the classic fireplace, to the old-fashioned pizza oven and the built-in grill—extend the outdoor season.
There is a move toward natural materials, versus man made, and quality materials, versus the less expensive flashier choices. Savvy homeowners know that good design is essential and that building it right for the long term pays off better than the quick fix.
Homeowners, including those in urban areas, see the environmentally responsible benefits of providing food, water and shelter for migrating birds and native species of all types. This can be done by planting large evergreens for year-round shelter or converting a section of your garden to a wildflower meadow. Some may even add a beehive or a chicken coop!
Redbud, a landscape construction company specializing in the custom design and quality installation of residential improvement and development projects, works with clients to imagine and build exterior environments that connect seamlessly with the interior and reflect their personalities and lifestyles.
