0616OlivaOliva! Gourmet Olive Oil &Vinegars

www.olivaevoo.com
Owner: Kathleen Connolly Describe your business with a brief history: Oliva! is a gourmet food store, specializing in extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars. It is based on the European concept of tasting before you purchase. This is extremely important with olive oil because, as a consumer, it is helpful to know what fresh, extra virgin olive oil tastes like. It is quite different than what you typically find in a grocery store.
What do you love about the service or product you provide? They are good for you and delicious. I love when people break out into a huge smile after tasting them.
Why is it perfect for the Capital Region? The Capital Region embraces good, healthy eating, as can be seen by the success of farmers markets and specialty food stores. We have been well received by those consumers, not only for their own consumption but as the perfect gift.
What motivates you to do your best? Prior to opening Oliva!, I spent 30 years selling software to hospitals, most specifically to heart centers. Unfortunately, we are not a very healthy nation and many of our health problems are directly related to what we eat. It is a great feeling to know that I can offer better choices to people—that taste good.
What is your weekend like when you are not working? I still have two daughters at home, and 3 dogs so that alone should tell you what my life is like! I also have stepped up my bikram yoga practice.
Hours: Albany: Monday – Friday 10am-9pm; Saturday 10am-6pm; Sunday 12pm-5pm. Call for Lenox, MA hours.

Describe your business with a brief history: I founded Teakwood Builders in 1996 based on my vision to create beautiful buildings of high-quality construction and detailed craftsmanship. I hired slowly, built strong relationships with clients and my own team of craftspeople, and grew the business into a full-service design/build company that today employs 17 full-time professionals. The name “Teakwood” comes from a street name in the neighborhood where I grew up in Clifton Park. Coincidentally, it is also among the most beautiful and durable of the tropical hardwoods!
