2.  Do you feel tired or irritable after a long conversation?  yes  no.
3.  Do you sometimes miss key words in a sentence or frequently need to ask people to repeat themselves?  yes  no.
4.  When you are in a group or in a crowded restaurant, is it difficult for you to follow the conversation?  yes  no.
5.  When you are together with other people, does background noise bother you? yes  no.
6.  Do you often need to turn up the volume on your TV or radio?  yes  no.
7.  Do you find it difficult to hear the doorbell or the telephone ring?  yes  no.
8.  Do you find it difficult to hear water boiling when you are in the kitchen?  yes  no.
9.  Is carrying on a telephone conversation difficult?  yes  no.
10. Do you find it difficult to pinpoint the location of an object (e.g., an alarm clock or a telephone) from the noise it makes?  yes  no.
11. Has someone close to you mentioned that you might have a problem with your hearing?  yes  no.
If you answered “yes” to one or more of the above questions, you will benefit from a hearing evaluation. See our ad on page 32.

Attentive Care
5 Computer Drive West, Albany
438.6271; www.attentiveservices.com
Attentive Care has provided quality care to patients in the Capital District since 1977. Our dual-service company provides both licensed home care and homemaker/companion service.  The company’s stated goal is to treat every individual with compassion, respect and dignity, while providing quality home health care. Locally owned and operated, Attentive Care is licensed by the New York State Department of Health and fully complies with all regulations governing licensed home care agencies.
The initial nursing assessment is a crucial step to ensure that the needs of loved ones are identified and matched with the skills and competencies of their caregivers. The Attentive Care staff understands their success is based on their experience and relationships with loved ones, so the company invests significant time and attention on screening, training and supervising its employees to ensure they provide the best quality of care.
To fill a rapidly growing need for non-medical support services in the community, Attentive Care also offers a non-medical homemaker/companion service that provides assistance and support, assuring home safety, social interaction, meal planning and preparation, light housekeeping, community appointments and activities. This service gives relief for those family members responsible for these important care-giving duties.

When a nursing home is not the answer
Sometimes living independently is no longer a good idea for older adults who face challenges with activities of daily living, like keeping house or managing medications. Long-term skilled care is expensive and may not yet be necessary or desirable. The Wesley Community has a residential community with a New York State Department of Health-licensed enriched living program that fills this in-between need.
The enriched living program at Woodlawn Commons provides subtle, 24-hour a day staff support that encourages independence and provides peace of mind to the residents and their loved ones. Participants in the program reside in individual apartments equipped with an emergency call system. Apartments have a sitting room, kitchenette, bedroom and easily accessible bathroom. It feels more like home than single rooms offered by other enriched housing and assisted living providers.
Residents also receive three meals daily served restaurant-style in our dining room. Our program coordinator, a registered nurse, oversees resident services and makes sure each person has a service plan tailored to meet his/ her individual needs. Housekeeping and laundry services, scheduled transportation, medication management and assistance with other daily living activities are included. Best of all, residents have opportunities to socialize with others and to take part in a variety of life-enriching events and activities.
The Wesley Community also offers the full spectrum of long-term care services, outpatient therapies for all ages, short-term rehabilitation and adult day services, as well as independent housing for seniors in all income brackets.
