Advanced Audiology Services
Hearing impairment currently affects 10% of the population and is the third most common chronic health condition in the US.  One out of every three adults over age 65 has a hearing loss.
Every adult should have a baseline hearing test by the age of 30.  Adults over the age of 40 should have an annual hearing test.

Referral for a hearing evaluation is recommended any time an individual describes listening difficulties or a family member notices such difficulties. Common complaints by family members are, "He/she doesn’t pay attention," or "He/she has selective hearing." Someone with hearing loss might complain that "others mumble," "I can hear fine if I’m looking at someone," or "I can’t hear in crowded or noisy situations."

Audiologists can provide testing and evaluation, counseling, rehabilitation, recommendations for listening devices and hearing-loss education programs.

Hearing properly with both ears can mean the difference between just hearing and hearing and understanding. Having balanced hearing with both ears will help a person function more normally, localize sound, understand more in noisy situations, hear better with less volume and hear equally well from both sides.

When the human ear stops hearing sounds, as occurs with hearing loss, the ear declines further in its ability to recognize sound. In effect, if not exercised, the brain forgets its former ability to hear and understand. If untreated, this auditory deprivation becomes irreversible. The sooner the hearing loss is treated, the better the results!

Advanced Audiology Services is located in the Troy Medical Plaza in downtown Troy.  For more information call 270.5802.

Home of The Good Shepherd

At the Home of The Good Shepherd, we offer our residents superior professional care in a warm and inviting assisted living environment. Our size allows us to treat each person who stays with us as an individual, meeting their own particular needs and encouraging them to remain active and involved with their lives.

We put the personal care and comfort of our residents above all else. This includes the assistance we give them with the tasks of their everyday lives, including dressing, bathing, oral care and general hygiene.

Upon admission, a personal care plan is developed for each resident and integrated within case management services. The personal care plan reflects an individual resident’s needs and routines prior to admission, and is based on discussions with the resident, family members, physicians and others concerned with the well-being of the resident.

A variety of delicious meals are served three times a day in our dining room. Each resident has a choice of meals. Evening snacks are also offered. Therapeutic diets, as ordered by a physician, and tray service to accommodate special circumstances, are also available.

Our residents never run out of opportunities for enriching and energizing their lives. We offer a full calendar of social and recreational activities that keep residents challenged and active. Planned trips are scheduled to area shopping centers, restaurants, and cultural activities. Of course, residents may choose to pursue their own interests, such as reading or watching television.

Home of the Good Shepherd is located at 26 Rock Rose Way, Malta. For more information call 581.2800 or visit www.homeofthegoodshepherd.com

Kingsway Community
Senior living is Kingsway’s specialty
Memory Care Center – where quality of life is priority

It was 36 years ago that Kingsway Arms Nursing Center opened.  The year was 1975 – when “Jaws” was the movie hit of the summer. Since that time, Kingsway has been providing quality care and a meaningful life for residents specializing in emphasizing an individual’s highest level of functioning within a safe, comfortable living environment.

The self-contained 25-acre Kingsway Community campus is family-owned and operated. Whether living independently, in assisted living or requiring skilled nursing or short-term rehabilitation, each resident can expect a variety of benefits and services from a dedicated staff of warm, caring professionals.

Kingsway recognizes that each resident has individual and specific needs relating to their medical, physical, emotional and social well-being. Therefore, the new 20-person Memory Care Center, located within Kingsway Manor Assisted Living Residence, was thoughtfully designed to maximize independence and increase quality of life for those with early to mid-stage dementia. Private, well-appointed rooms include care services such as: assistance with personal care needs, medication assistance, cueing and reminders, flexible bathing/shower schedules, and coordination of radiological, laboratory, psychological and podiatric services.

A country kitchen, nutritious meals and snacks, comfortable lounges, gathering areas and a landscaped courtyard beckon residents to socialize and share in life’s daily activities. Intergenerational programs with the children from Kingsway Kids Center enrich the lives of both residents and children alike. Compassionate staff provides support with a family focus to assure peace of mind.  Most importantly, residents feel safe and well cared for.
Thirty-six years worth of experience and commitment prove that “Caring in the Family Tradition” is much more than just a slogan. . . it is Kingsway’s way of life.

Steven Yarinsky, MD,
Saratoga Springs Plastic Surgery, PC

You, too, can grow old more gracefully!

What is a “Liquid Face Lift”? Muscle relaxants and facial fillers are used to turn back the hands of the aging clock and provide you with timeless beauty without surgery! I have been practicing the art and science of Cosmetic Medicine as a board certified plastic surgeon for over 22 years. As one of the only area members of the Aesthetic Society, I am exceptionally experienced and qualified to assist you with your Liquid Facelift. Many seniors tell me that they are happy to try non-invasive or minimally-invasive treatments to rejuvenate their appearance.

Facial aging includes a combination of environmental (sun) skin surface damage improved with a good skin care program or laser treatments; muscle hyperactivity treated with Botox® Cosmetic; gravity effects, which may be improved with surgical face lifting and loss of volume or deflation (fat and soft tissue loss), which is best treated with fillers. Non-surgical facial rejuvenation includes the use of muscle relaxants like Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® to soften active frown lines. Long-lasting facial fillers restore volume to your face, which can help you look many years younger. The results are quite effective, immediate and can last 1-2 years. You can appear 5, 10 or even 15 years younger! This type of facial rejuvenation has little down-time and very high satisfaction.

I personally do your filler and Botox® Cosmetic treatments, so you receive the added benefit of my many years of experience. I invite you to consult with me and receive a complimentary “Beauty for Life” brochure that describes the aging process and outlines anti-aging options. No matter what your age, it’s never too late to look and feel your best!

Visit Steven Yarinsky, MD, FACS at his website at www.yarinsky.com and in person by calling weekdays for a consultation at 583.4019.
