The road to hearing better begins with a positive decision he or she to take action. It’s hard to believe, but it takes the average person seven years from learning that has a hearing loss to acquiring hearing instruments to hear better. Due to recent developments in digital technology, present–day hearing instruments offer more help than ever, particularly in those challenging listening environments that once were bad news for anyone wearing hearing devices, e.g., the wedding reception or the church social event.
Hearing instruments have changed so much. They not only perform better, they no longer look the way they used to. Today’s instruments are smaller, stylish and comfortable to wear.  Even those worn over the ear are often hard to detect.
Now, hearing instruments can keep the individual wirelessly connected to sound coming from various sources. Such devices utilize wireless technology to communicate with each other. This can provide the listener with a more complete acoustic picture of the environment and enable easier and faster volume and listening program changes. With wireless technology, hearing instruments can be used as a headset with the telephone, TV, personal music player, or any other audio source. Hearing instruments used in conjunction with companion microphone-transmitters can greatly improve the ability to listen more effectively in the car, a noisy restaurant or at a meeting or lecture.
Remember, today’s hearing instruments are more effective than ever and can help maintain important activities and relationships and foster a greater sense of belonging.

Makeup for mature skin
“I don’t know how to do my makeup anymore!” We hear this at the salon all the time. As skin matures, it requires a different approach to look polished and beautiful with makeup.  Nicole from the salon has compiled some tips that will help ease some of those concerns.
Moisturize!  Mature skin needs hydration. Before applying any foundation, be sure to give the skin a healthy dose of moisture with a good quality lotion or cream.
Foundations should be glowing.  Avoid matte finishes that can emphasize fine lines and wrinkles.  Here is an area where quality counts.  Lines such as Bobbi Brown, Chanel, and Nars will give the skin a lifted and fresh appearance.  For a lighter touch, try some of the new BB creams that have come on the market.
For darker circles under the eye, it’s important to use a corrector or brightener before concealing. These are generally a peach shade that is applied directly to the darkest areas and blended.  After this, use a light reflecting concealer to further conceal and give lift to the delicate undereye area. Gently powder with a translucent powder to set the makeup and avoid settling into the lines.
Bronzer is your friend!  Sweeping bronzer on the temples and around the chin area can warm the skin and bring a youthful glow. Don’t forget to add a soft rose blush to the apples of the cheeks.
For eyes, try to avoid deep black liners and mascaras.   Chocolates, grays, and other neutrals will avoid the look of a heavy lid.  Skipping the bottom lashes will also keep the eyes lifted. Eyeshadows can have a little shimmer, but shouldn’t be too bold or bright. Softer colors won’t be as harsh.
Lips can change a makeup look more than almost any other part of a look.    Sheer lipsticks in pink shades can help the lips look fuller and age appropriate.  Avoid darker colors, reds and anything too matte. For any questions, contact Nicole@ChristopherBrianSalon.com.

Did you get your flu shot? Are you a candidate for a shingles vaccine?  How about pneumonia?
The winter is the perfect time to consider your immunization health to help protect you and your family. The pharmacists at the Lindsay Drug Co., Inc. are specially certified immunizers through the APhA (American Pharmacist Association). They offer the seasonal Influenza, to protect you from the flu; Pneumococcal vaccine, which protects against pneumonia; and Zoster vaccine, which protects against shingles. It’s never too late to be immunized, including the flu, for this season. Keeping your immunizations up to date will reduce your chances of serious illness.
Every person should get a yearly flu shot. The Pneumococcal vaccine is recommended for people 65 and older and the Zoster  shingles shot for those 60 years old and older. Who hasn’t seen the commercials about shingles? It doesn’t look like anything anyone would want to endure. Ask your doctor if these shots would be right for you; then give the Lindsay Drug Co. a call to set up a personal appointment with one of the certified pharmacists.
While you’re here, ask about the Medication Management Program that Lindsay offers. You will meet with a pharmacist to discuss your current medications. The pharmacist will check your medicines for negative interactions; review how to take each one at the best time; and help organize your medicine schedule to aid in staying in compliance with your doctor’s recommended therapy.

You know the Y for our pools and our gyms and our treadmills. But we’re so much more.
Helping Those With Chronic Health Challenges – We provide a safe and welcoming environment for cancer survivors. Our caring support team focuses on the whole person, not just the disease. Every day, across our association, we’re helping cancer survivors find their new "normal" and re-capture their lives.
We’re also a place that welcomes those at risk for diabetes. We help you take control of your health by adopting habits that help you reduce the chance of developing type-2 diabetes, and improve your overall health and well-being.
Giving Back to Our Community – Through our childcare programs, we nurture the potential in every child. Our health and wellness programs improve the health and well-being of those who live in our communities. And through our scholarship program, we strengthen our community by giving back and helping those in need.
The Y is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families and communities. Every day, our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child, and when a community comes together for the common good.

Myrtle Street Obstetrics & Gynecology

At Myrtle Street Obstetrics & Gynecology, our providers strive to assist women and their partners  to achieve a safe and satisfying journey through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. In caring for, educating, and empowering our patients, our wish is that each woman in our care attains a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery, and can look back and have fond memories of this joyful time in her life.
Pregnancy, labor and delivery are natural processes.  We honor and respect the process of birth.  Just as no two women are the same, neither are two birth stories.  Our physicians and midwife are here to support patients with one unified birth plan:  a healthy mother and healthy baby.  We encourage patients to utilize our labor tub, be active and moving in early labor, and use pain management options as they wish.  We trust in the natural process of birth and women can trust that we seek to intervene only when medically necessary.  In such cases, our approach is gentle and respectful, involving patients in the dialogue of decision making.   Our experience and commitment to high quality obstetrical care enrich the experiences of patients and their families.  We have an IBLCE-certified lactation consultant and in-office programs (i.e., childbirth education, sibling classes, and breast-feeding classes).  We are proud to offer an in-office lab for blood work and AIUM-accredited ultrasound services for patients’ convenience. We are honored to care for women and their families.
